A Kimberly coach and alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has been honored by Chancellor Bernie Patterson for his success on the football field.

Steve Jones, a 2002 graduate of UW-Stevens Point, recently received the Chancellor’s Citation for Athletic Excellence and Success as Head Football Coach of Kimberly High School. He is just one of 12 to be honored with a chancellor’s citation in the university’s 124-year history.

“We at UW-Stevens Point are very proud of what you have accomplished,” said Patterson, noting Jones’ career coaching record of 88-4.

Under Jones, Kimberly High School football has won five consecutive state championships. The team has 70 wins since November 2012, the longest winning streak of any high school nationwide. In 2017, Jones was named the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association/Green Bay Packers Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year. He was also voted the 2017 Associated Press Coach of the year by a panel of statewide media voters.

Jones came to Kimberly as an assistant coach in 2006 and become head coach in 2011. He also teaches leadership. Previously he was an assistant coach in Baraboo and a graduate assistant coach at UW-Stevens Point.

He played Pointers football from 1998 to 2001 and is a graduate of Stevens Point Area Senior High School.
