The Stevens Point Area Convention & Visitors Bureau has announced an opening date for its new visitor center and gift shop.

The new center, which moved into its new location at 1105 Main St., Suite A, in downtown Stevens Point earlier this year, will open to the public for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. to p.m.

The center will continue to serve as a hub for information on things to do and see in all of Portage Co. and is open to locals and visitors. The new location also has a retail component with the launch of the gift shop, which includes items “inspired by and promoting the region,” according to a news release from the CVB. Merchandise will also be available for purchase online.

Masks are required in the visitor center and visitors are limited to 10 at one time. Curbside and car-side delivery of materials, as well as gift shop orders, will be available by calling 715.344.2556.

“The timing of the soft opening with Shop Small Saturday hopes to promote the importance of small businesses throughout the region—which are pillars of our community,” the news release reads in part.

The SPACVB is also supporting local businesses through Merch Madness, a promotion with a voting component for the “best of” in the Stevens Point Area. For more details go to https://bit.ly/MerchMadnessStPtArea.

Work to reimagine the visitor center and the CVB’s administrative offices began in 2014. The former location, 340 Division St. North, was constructed in 1998 next to what was, at the time, the Holiday Inn Holidome—the region’s largest hotel and convention center.

Sara Brish, executive director of the CVB, said, “We aren’t building for today; or even tomorrow. We are planning for the next 25 years.”
