Wolf bests Ballard for village president in Plover

By Brandi Makuski

Voters in Plover have elected Gary Wolf as their new village president.

Wolf, currently a Ward 2 village trustee, beat challenger Ross Ballard, a trustee in Ward 1, by a tally of 1,933 to 1,577.

On Wednesday morning, Wolf told the Metro Wire that he was overwhelmed by all of the support he received.

“I was surprised by the turnout, I think the Supreme Court race brought a lot more people,” Wolf said. “And I think Ross [Ballard] conducted his campaign with character and integrity. There was no village politics.”

Ballard was not immediately available for comment.

The two vied for the position after President Tom Davies announced he was retiring.

Ballard is active in Plover-Whiting Youth Athletics and also serves on the Plover Tourism Commission.

Wolf is also chairman of the Public Works Committee, and began public service in 2004 with the village’s Board of Zoning Appeals.

Elsewhere in Plover, Al Haga won the race for Ward 2 Trustee against challengers Darcy Grabski, Sara Luchini and Tim L. Cisewski.

Haga received 351 votes, followed by Grabski with 298, Luchini with 272, and Cisewski with 257.

Haga has served almost 30 years in the village’s Planning and Zoning Committee, and has been a county board supervisor in Portage County’s District 15. He’s been elected as County Board Chairman for five years.
