Madalyn Marie Rasmussen, 96

Madalyn Marie Rasmussen, of Stevens Point, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at the age of 96, following her courageous battle against Father Time.

Madalyn was born November 5, 1926, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, to the late Frank and Isabella (née Hell) Simonis. She grew up in Wisconsin Rapids and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1944.

Following high school, Madalyn worked for the Wood County Telephone Company until 1947. She married Larry Rasmussen on September 24, 1947, at St. Peter and Paul Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Larry and Madalyn settled in Stevens Point in 1955 where Madalyn worked at the Rice Clinic and St. Michael’s Hospital before retiring in 1989. Madalyn and Larry celebrated 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2000.

Madalyn enjoyed playing cards. She was incredibly talented at Bridge and enjoyed playing Euchre when the family got together. Her other passions included golf, bowling, mowing her lawn, taking care of her flowers, traveling the world and sipping on an occasional martini.

Her highlight every year was the family vacation to Hayward, Wis. The annual tradition continued for more than 40 years where Madalyn was able to enjoy endless hours of fun with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with activities such as water skiing, tubing, fishing, sunset rides on the pontoon boat, shuffleboard and lots and lots of Euchre. Madalyn also enjoyed her volunteer work with Portage County Meals on Wheels and Operation Bootstrap.

Madalyn is survived by her four sons, Donald (Ann Meshak), Harold (Cindy), Richard (Lynn), and John (Cindy); 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; her sister, Kathleen (Ted) Menge; and sister-in-law, Rose Mary Simonis.

Madalyn was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; a son, Gerald; brothers, Bill, Glen, and Francis Simonis; sister, Denise Ciszewski; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Simonis; brother-in-law, Cletus Ciszewski; and daughter-in-law, Bobbi Rasmussen.

For those wishing to express their sympathies, the family kindly suggests in leu of flowers, donations be made in Madalyn’s name to Operation Bootstrap of Portage County (5000 Heffron Street, Stevens Point, Wis., 54481) or St. Joseph Catholic Church (1709 Wyatt Avenue, Stevens Point, Wis., 54481).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Madalyn at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1709 Wyatt Ave., Stevens Point. Rev. Jeffrey Hennes will officiate. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Parish Cemetery.
