Aspirus announces top baby names of ’22

Metro Wire Staff

Naming a newborn is a key step in welcoming the smallest and latest addition to a family.

There are thousands of names for parents to choose from, but in the end, each name given to a child is special and unique, as they carry it with them throughout their life.

From Jan. 1 to Dec. 22, 2022, the Aspirus Health System welcomed 2,999 babies into the world.

A total of 1,556 different names were given to those newborns, according to Aspirus, and the hospital system has gathered the most popular baby names given throughout.

Here are the top baby names of 2022:

Boy

Henry (24)
Oliver (19)
Owen (17)

Historically, the name Henry peaked in the 1880s, when just over two percent of newborn boys in the United States were given the name. It’s been experiencing an uptick since the mid-2000s.

Girl

Ella (13)
Eleanor (13)
Olivia (13)

Ella also peaked in 1880 and has seen a resurgence in popularity since about 2010. Eleanor was very popular in the 1910s and is being used more often since the 2010s.

Aspirus cares for mothers and babies throughout the entire pregnancy, from the first prenatal visit through delivery.

The newborn intensive care unit (NICU) at Aspirus Wausau Hospital provides the added reassurance that world-class care is available within the Aspirus system if a baby needs specialized care after he or she is born.
