The Plover Police Department welcomed a new officer on Nov. 27.

Officer Joe Clark was sworn into service by Chief Ryan Fox before a crowd of law enforcement officers and personnel from Stevens Point, Portage Co., and Plover, as well as several village officials.

Clark, 27, previously worked as a patrol officer for the Stevens Point Police Department. His last day there was Nov. 15, he said.

“I was looking for greener grass, in a sense,” Clark said of his departure from SPPD. “I was looking for a new opportunity to work for a place that’s really forward-thinking and supports its employees in a really positive way, and I see that in Plover.”

Fox said Clark was highly regarded at SPPD, working with honor, integrity…and he displayed sound character,” traits he believes Clark will carry on in the service of the village.

“We’re lucky to have you,” Fox told him on Monday.

Clark is the third city officer to move on to the Plover Police Department. Officer Blake Hansen was hired by the village in 2017, followed by now-Sergeant Aimee Kontos in 2018. The village has also hired two former Portage Co. deputies.

Clark lives in the Plover area with his wife.
