Plover — The Plover Fire Department has several new Constitutional officers.

Fire Chief Mark Deaver said about a year ago, it became department policy to swear in each new member at the beginning of their yearlong probationary periods.

“All our members are all servants of the state and nation, and they have to abide by the Constitution,” Deaver said. “It holds them to a higher standard.”

Five members were sworn in on Wednesday night by Village Clerk Tammy Wojtalewicz in the vehicle bay of Station 1 of the Plover Fire Department, 2400 Post Rd.

Seven newcomers who had recently begun their probationary period also underwent a badge-pinning.

Most of the department’s 40+ paid, on-call firefighter/medic force were present for the ceremony, clad in their Class B uniforms, while Deaver and his deputy chiefs, Anthony Luchini and Trevor Howard, wore Class A apparel. Village Administrator Steve Kunst and Village President Gary Wolf were also present.
