Raymond Wallace Schulist, 80

Raymond Wallace Schulist, whose life embodied dedication to family, community, and hard work, peacefully entered eternal rest on May 16, 2024, at the age of 80.

Born on September 6, 1943, in Galloway, Wis., Ray was raised on the family potato farm by his parents, John and Helen (née Zywicki) Schulist. From them, he learned the values of family, community service, a diligent work ethic, and the satisfaction of a job well accomplished.

In 1966, Ray married Shirley Lemanczyk, whom he met at a dance in Rosholt, Wis. They built their life together in Plover before settling in Shantytown, Wis., in 1971. Ray and Shirley were blessed with a daughter, Lynn, in 1980, and later welcomed their cherished grandson, Kaleb, in 2001. Known affectionately as “Uncle Ray” by many, he was always ready to offer a helping hand and enjoyed bringing loved ones together for joyful gatherings.

Ray’s commitment to service extended beyond his family. He dedicated himself to his country and community, serving on the Bevent Town Board for 11 years, participating in the Polish Legion of America, and co-founding the Shantytown Snowmobile Club. Additionally, he actively contributed to his faith community, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and choir member.

Throughout his life, Ray demonstrated resilience and determination. After starting his career in agriculture, he transitioned to the construction industry, eventually founding his own successful business, Ray Schulist Builders, in 1991. His perseverance, guided by the poem “Don’t Quit” by Edgar A. Guest, served as a testament to his steadfast character.

Beyond his work, Ray found joy in simple pleasures like hunting, fishing, and supporting local community events. He was a devoted fan of Wisconsin sports teams and took great pride in attending his grandson’s athletic competitions.

Ray is survived by his daughter, Lynn Schulist; grandson, Kaleb Schulist; brother-in-law, Jim Lemanczyk; brother, Bernard (Marlene) Schulist; sister-in-law, Charlotte Schulist; eight nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Shirley, his parents, John and Helen, his brother Richard Schulist, and his brother, Richard Schulist; in-laws, Hubert and Bridget Betker, and Eddie and Tessie Lemanczyk; sister-in-law, Linda Lemanczyk; and many other beloved family and friends.

The family expresses gratitude to all who have offered support during this time.
