In wake of animal rescues, fundraisers organized for Humane Society of Portage County

Several fundraisers have been scheduled to help support the Humane Society of Portage County.

The organization took in 16 dogs from an uninhabitable home in the Bancroft area on March 8, and several other animals from another home in Grant on March 29, so it has more animals than resources and room.

Sherri Galle-Teske, director of the humane society, couldn’t comment on the specific cases but did say the animals couldn’t be released until both incidents were resolved in circuit court as they’re considered evidence.

The events follow:

  • Peoples State Bank is set to host “People’s for Pets” on Friday, May 31, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., which will take place at the bank, 138 McDill Ave. in Whiting. Attendees can enjoy food, kids games, Frisbee Golf, a petting zoo, and a live band, all free.
  • HSPC’s “Walk For Wags,” honoring firefighters who rescue animals, will follow on Sunday, June 23, at Pfiffner Pioneer Park. The event will feature a costume contest, emceed by Channel 7’s Jeff Thelen, along with vendors, raffles, and awards. Set-up begins at 10 a.m., with the event kicking off at 11 a.m. and concluding around 2 p.m.
  • “Beer, Cheese For Pets Please” is scheduled for Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Feltz Family Farm & Dairy Store, Porter Rd. in the town of Plover. The fundraiser will feature entertainment by the Grey Catz Band, raffles, a craft show, food, cheese boxes, and Point Beer — all sourced from Central Wisconsin.
