Portage County to host agricultural ‘Clean Sweep’ event

Plover — Portage County Solid Waste is urging farmers and agricultural landowners to participate in a hazardous waste disposal event on July 18.
The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at 600 Moore Rd. in Plover. Registration is required and can be completed by calling 715-346-1931 or online at the county’s website.
An agricultural hazardous waste grant from the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection will help offset disposal costs.
Fees for disposal are as follows
Agricultural chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, fertilizers): $0.75 per pound
Other agricultural chemicals (oil-based paint, solvents, degreasers, fuels, teat wash): $0.75 per pound
Mercury or mercury-containing devices: $3 per pound with a one-pound minimum
Latex/water-based paints: $1.50 per pound
The following items will be accepted free of charge
Anti-freeze (5-gallon containers or smaller)
Motor oil (5-gallon containers or smaller)
Brake/hydraulic/power steering/transmission fluid (5-gallon containers or smaller)
Items not accepted include
Empty agricultural chemical containers
Compressed gas cylinders
Explosives and radioactive material
Medications
Infectious or biological wastes
Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQGs) and businesses may also register, but the grant does not cover their disposal costs. For more information, call 715-346-1931.
