Portage Co. inmate is on the run, sheriff says

Stevens Point — Portage County Jail inmate Matthew J. Garsomke, 28, is on the run after failing to return from a court-issued furlough on Friday morning.

Garsomke was released from jail at 10:30 a.m. on June 28 for a three-hour furlough granted by the Portage County Circuit Courts. He was scheduled to return to the jail at 1:30 p.m. but did not comply with the furlough order.

Authorities reported Garsomke was last seen walking northbound on Strongs Ave. in Stevens Point at approximately 10:35 a.m. He is described as a Caucasian male, 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 203 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt, white t-shirt, gray shorts, and blue shoes.

Garsomke has been in custody since Jan. 28 and was being held on a $1,500 cash bond for charges of including fleeing police on a moped, several thefts, including Campus Cycle burglary, and other charges.
