Myron “Mike” A. Shulfer, 82

Myron “Mike” A. Shulfer, 82, of Plover, passed away peacefully at home on May 30, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Mike was born on April 29, 1942, in the town of Stockton, to the late Elbert and Alice (née Mrochinski) Shulfer. He attended St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic School and graduated from Amherst High School in 1960.

After graduation, Mike intended to join the Army National Guard of Wisconsin but chose to stay home to run the family farm after his father’s death. He married Jeanette Liss on May 18, 1963, in Stevens Point. They settled in Plover, where they raised their family and remained married for 42 years until Jeanette’s passing in 2006.

Mike worked for Kurzewski Distributing, Package Boiler, Morning Glory Dairy, and the Portage County Highway Department. In 1976, he founded Shulfer’s Sprinklers and Landscaping. He retired from the highway department in 1991 and focused on his business, working alongside his sons until his retirement in 2017.

Mike loved the outdoors, enjoying golfing, softball, fishing, and hunting. He cherished hunting trips every November with his family. Mike also spent 10 years coaching for the Plover-Whiting Youth Athletics program and was a dedicated supporter of his grandchildren’s sports teams. He was an avid fan of Wisconsin sports teams, including the Badgers, Brewers, Bucks, and Packers.

In retirement, Mike enjoyed morning coffee with his brothers and friends at South Point Restaurant. He also spent time watching sports, westerns, and game shows on TV.

Mike is survived by his children, Renee (John) Oestreich, Chris (Liane) Shulfer, Shelley (Philip) Kubesh, and Keith (Leah) Shulfer; eight grandchildren, Megan (Cody) Fox, Sean Shulfer, Seth Shulfer, Kyle Woyak, Sydnee Woyak, Collin (Jaime) Klemm, Abby Klemm, and Sophia Shulfer; and two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Fox and Amelia Klemm. He is also survived by his brother Ronald; two sisters, Maxine King and Shirley (Deloyd) Slowinski; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeanette, his twin brother Maynard, his in-laws Adolph and Helen, brothers-in-law Bob King and Stanley Wysocki, sister-in-law Carol Shulfer, and nephew Jerry King.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the family for a memorial to be established later are appreciated. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Compassus Home Hospice and Home Instead for their wonderful care.
