BP gas stations in Stevens Point are no longer locally owned.

The three gas stations — located at 3209 Church St., 4928 Main St., and 412 Division St. — are now the property of Sun Prairie-based Refuel Pantry.

Little is known about Refuel Pantry, although a quick internet search shows it owns about a dozen convenience stores in Wisconsin. A message left for a company representative was not immediately returned.

Bill Cooper, co-owner of Cooper Oil Co., Inc., said the sale of the three properties closed on May 22.

“We’re looking to focus on other things. And, you know, we’re not getting any younger,” Cooper said, chuckling. “We’re still doing propane and Cooper Oil, so, no, we’re not retired; not even close. We’re just kind of lightening the load a little bit.”

Cooper said the new owners plan to continue the “Fuel Our Schools” program, which provides a percentage of fuel purchased at specific fuel stations back into local schools.

Cooper Oil still provides fuel and propane to area residential and agricultural customers and plans to continue supporting local youth sports, Cooper said.

Cooper Oil was born as Standard Oil, which began its operations in Stevens Point in 1919. It rebranded as Cooper Oil in Stevens Point in 1934, a transition that marked the establishment of Cooper Oil as a family-run business.
