STEVENS POINT – Tim Zimmerman, owner of Mitchell Metal Products, showcased his company’s involvement with Wreaths Across America during the GFWC-Stevens Point Women’s Club meeting on Nov. 14.
Zimmerman’s presentation detailed the national initiative to honor veterans by laying wreaths at their gravesites. The local Women’s Club will join the effort by placing wreaths at St. Bronislava Catholic Cemetery on Dec. 14.
During the meeting, club members collected more than $250 to fund a holiday food basket through Operation Bootstrap, a community program supporting families in need.
The GFWC-Stevens Point Women’s Club, founded in 1895, is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), an international organization established in 1890 that focuses on community improvement through volunteer service. GFWC-Wisconsin was chartered into the federation on Oct. 20, 1896. Its objective is to unite Wisconsin’s federated women’s clubs and provide networking opportunities with other state federations and GFWC headquarters.
For over 100 years, GFWC-Wisconsin has addressed the needs of its members, communities, and the nation through volunteerism. The organization’s structure enables it to respond quickly to emerging needs locally and nationwide.
The local Stevens Point club has supported various community projects over the years, including Pediatric Jump Bags, Jaws of Life, Foster Care, Seramur Park, Schmeeckle Reserve, and KASH Park.
