Young performers, musicians to fill UWSP arts center during summer camps

STEVENS POINT — The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Noel Fine Arts Center will be bustling with activity next week as two summer arts camps bring dozens of young performers and musicians to campus.

UWSP will host its annual Musical Theatre Camp June 14-19 for students ages 14 to 18. The program is led by faculty members with experience ranging from professional regional theater productions to Broadway.

Camp participants will take part in daily classes focused on vocal technique, song performance, acting and dance. The week will conclude with a public performance Friday in Jenkins Theatre at the Noel Fine Arts Center.

At the same time, the university’s Point Music Camp will welcome students entering grades 9 through 12 for a week of music instruction and collaboration.

The camp gives students an opportunity to work with UWSP Department of Music faculty and industry professionals while exploring new music, techniques and performance skills. Organizers said the program is designed to help students build confidence and enthusiasm for music while performing alongside other talented young musicians.

The Point Music Camp will conclude with a public concert Thursday in Michelsen Hall at the Noel Fine Arts Center.

The overlapping camps are expected to bring young artists from across the region to Stevens Point for a week of intensive training, performance and creative development.
