YMCA, Mid-State partner to provide drop-in child care

STEVENS POINT – The Stevens Point Area YMCA is teaming up with Mid-State Technical College to offer short-term, drop-in child care during select campus programs and events, thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin.

The initiative begins this fall and is designed to help student parents and caregivers fully participate in professional development opportunities, workshops, and career readiness events without worrying about child care.

“Access to child care is one of the biggest barriers that student parents face when pursuing education and career goals,” said BreAnn Constantineau, membership and marketing director at the YMCA. “Through this collaboration with Mid-State Technical College, we are proud to remove that barrier and ensure that all students have the opportunity to grow, learn, and participate in Mid-State experiences and programs.”

Child care will be available during the following Mid-State programs:

  • Aug. 26 – Welcome to Handshake (noon)

  • Sept. 2 – Written Off film screening (noon)

  • Sept. 10 – Suicide Prevention (10:30 a.m.)

  • Sept. 11 – PathwayU College and Career Tool (4–6 p.m.)

  • Sept. 16 – 16 Personalities session (11 a.m.)

  • Sept. 18 – UWSP Career and Internship Fair (1–5 p.m.)

  • Sept. 23 – Resume Development Workshop (noon)

  • Oct. 8 – Imposter Syndrome Workshop (2 p.m.)

  • Oct. 9 – Etiquette Luncheon (11 a.m.–1 p.m.)

  • Oct. 27 – Emotional Intelligence (1 p.m.)

  • Nov. 12 – Perspective Taking (10:30 a.m.)

  • Dec. 2 – Personality Powered Careers (11 a.m.)

  • First Fridays – GED/HSED Orientation & Instruction (9 a.m.–noon)

  • Second Fridays – Employability Course (9 a.m.–noon)

The YMCA said the effort supports its mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, while aligning with Mid-State’s focus on providing accessible, student-centered education.
