Wreaths Across America Held at Plover Korean War Memorial

For the Metro Wire

A combined color guard comprising Plover VFW Post 10262 Rifle Squad, Plover American Legion Post 543, and the Civil Air Patrol-Stevens Point Composite Squadron braved blistering temps on Saturday for the annual Wreaths Across American Ceremony.

Military honors were held at the Korean War Memorial in Plover in 15 degrees and biting winds.

Fresh evergreen wreaths were placed on memorial benches and at the base of the statuary by members of the Civil Air Patrol, recognizing each branch of service and symbolizing a living tribute in memory of POWs, MIAs and the fallen.

The Plover VFW Rifle Squad paid tribute to the fallen with a three-volley rifle salute and the playing of Taps.

The wreath-laying ceremony, held annually at more than 800 cemeteries and memorials nationwide, fulfills a mission to remember fallen heroes, honor those who serve, and to teach children about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families to preserve our freedoms.

Following the ceremony, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Nay-Osh-Ing and Stevens Point chapters, laid the wreaths upon the headstones of service-members at local cemeteries.
