WisDOT’s weekly road construction update, May 9

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) North Central Region provides weekly construction updates for interstate and state highway projects in Adams, Green Lake, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Oneida, Portage, Price, Shawano, Vilas, Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood counties.

Florence County
Highway: WIS 70
Location: Forest Road 2154 to US 2
Schedule: April 24 to July 2025
Description: Crews will repave the road and replace culverts as needed.
This week: Culvert and guardrail replacement continues, along with roadway undercutting for drainage improvements.
Traffic impacts: Lane closures with flaggers during the day; two 12-foot lanes will reopen at night.

Forest County
Highway: US 8
Location: WIS 55 to Otter Creek Road
Schedule: April 14 to Oct. 31, 2025
Description: Milling and resurfacing, culvert replacements, slope grading, and lane reconfigurations.
This week: Erosion control and landscaping, excavation, and box culvert extension work continues.
Traffic impacts: Shoulder closures and flagging operations.

Iron County
Highway: US 51
Location: Turtle River Bridge, Mercer
Schedule: April 8 to June 26, 2025
Description: Bridge deck replacement, guardrail upgrades, and new concrete parapets.
This week: Parapet steel installation, concrete pour, bridge form removal, and slope grading.
Traffic impacts: Lane closures with temporary bridge signals.

Langlade County
Highway: US 45
Location: Clinic Street to Otter Lake Lane, Elcho
Schedule: May 5 to October 2025
Description: Pavement replacement, storm sewer upgrades, sidewalk installations, and ADA ramp improvements.
This week: Removal of curb and sidewalk on the northbound side for temporary widening.
Traffic impacts: Drums placed; traffic remains in standard lanes.

Lincoln County
Highway: US 8
Location: McCord Road to County L
Schedule: May 15 to October 2025
Description: Pavement replacement, shoulder widening, rumble strips, guardrail and railroad crossing upgrades.
This week: Traffic control setup, erosion control, and curb removal.
Traffic impacts (next 10 days): Shoulder closures begin May 15.

Marathon County
Highway: I-39
Location: WIS 34 to Foxglove Road
Schedule: April 14 to Aug. 7, 2025
Description: Guardrail, culvert, paving, and ramp work.
This week: Paving and ramp construction on multiple segments.
Traffic impacts:

  • Northbound: Lane reductions with delays and speed limits; width restrictions through May 9.

  • Southbound: Lane reductions and closures near County N and WIS 29, with delays and 55 MPH speed zones.

  • Ramp impacts: Northbound Maple Ridge exit ramp closed for 14 days; southbound WIS 34 ramps temporarily closed May 7.

Oneida County
Highway: US 51
Location: Front Street to Third Avenue, Minocqua
Schedule: April 24 to October 2025 (no work June 13–Sept. 1)
Description: Pavement resurfacing, curb ramp upgrades, and pedestrian improvements.
This week: Concrete curb and sidewalk replacements, asphalt patching, and landscaping.
Traffic impacts: Closure of both right lanes; one through lane remains open in each direction.

Portage County
Highway: WIS 66
Location: Stevens Point Airport to County J
Schedule: April 30 to July 2025
Description: Resurfacing, storm sewer installation, curb repairs, culvert work, and bridge overlays near Jordan Pond.
This week: Overlay pours, inlet installation, and curb/gutter replacement at County J.
Traffic impacts:

  • Single-lane closures with flaggers for storm sewer work.

  • One 13-foot lane over Plover River with temporary signals through May.

Waushara County
Highway: WIS 21
Location: WIS 49 to Winnebago County line
Schedule: March 24 to October 2025
Description: Resurfacing, subgrade improvements, culvert work, and guardrail replacements.
This week: Asphalt paving, shoulder work, guardrail installation, and final restoration.
Traffic impacts: Full closure and detour until May 22 via WIS 49, WIS 23, WIS 44 and I-41.
