WisDOT releases weekly road construction update

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation provides weekly road construction updates for Adams, Green Lake, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Oneida, Portage, Price, Shawano, Vilas, Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood counties.

Construction schedules may fluctuate pending weather conditions and crew availability.
Highway: WIS 13
Location: North Street to Mound View Drive, Friendship
Schedule: May 6 to Oct. 15, 2024
Project description: This project includes concrete joint repairs, removing the existing concrete pavement surface, and installing a new asphalt driving surface. Work will be completed on the existing curb ramps to bring them up to current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. New pavement markings and guardrail will be installed as needed.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
- Install light poles
Traffic impacts: Single-lane closures with flaggers while crews work on light poles.

Forest County
Highway: WIS 55
Location: Scott Lake Road to WIS 70
Schedule: Aug. 23 to Nov. 1, 2024
Project description: Crews will resurface the highway, install new guardrails, and replace 24 culverts along WIS 55.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
- Complete finishing items
Traffic impacts: Motorists may encounter single-lane closures with flaggers.

Marathon County
Highway: US 51
Location: Decator Drive to the Lincoln County line
Schedule: Aug. 26 to November 2024
Project description: Crews will resurface the highway, replace a wing wall on a box culvert, and install shoulder rumble strips.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
- Complete finishing items
Traffic impacts: - Single-lane closures northbound Monday, Oct. 28 through noon Friday, Nov. 1
- Single-lane closures southbound Monday, Oct. 28 through noon Sunday, Nov. 3

Oneida County
Highway: WIS 32
Location: Julia Creek at Whitefish Lake Inlet
Schedule: Sept. 16 to November 2024
Project description: Crews will replace the existing culvert and reconstruct the roadway section over and approaching the culvert.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
- Complete placing of base aggregate dense material and fine grading of the roadway and shoulders
- Begin paving
- Install shoulder gravel and guardrail
- Install pavement marking and roadway signs
Traffic impacts: WIS 32 will be closed during construction. A detour will be in place. The detour route includes US 45, US 8, and WIS 55. Advanced signing will be used for truck width restrictions.

Portage County
Highway: I-39
Location: WIS 54 to North 2nd Street
Schedule: July 15 to Nov. 8, 2024
Project description: Crews will resurface the highway, including ramps, replace guardrail, install high-friction surface treatment on I-39 northbound at the BUS 51 interchange, install pavement markings, and install shoulder rumble strips.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
- Install permanent pavement markings
Traffic impacts for the next 10 days (Friday to following Sunday):
I-39 is anticipated to have various lane, shoulder, and ramp closures. Anticipated dates of closures: - I-39 lane closures from WIS 54 to North 2nd Street from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1
- Short ramp closures anticipated during the week for pavement marking operations at:
- WIS 54
- County B
- County HH
- US 10 / WIS 66 West
- Stanley Street / WIS 66 East
- BUS 51
Detour routes will be erected during US 10 southbound off-ramp and northbound on-ramp closures, directing traffic to County HH to re-enter the interstate.
