Wine & Cheese event replaced with online auction

The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County will host a “Giving to Great Futures” virtual auction this month to help fill a gap in its annual fundraising.

The online auction will be held Nov. 16-20 and is meant to help fill a $100,000 fundraising gap left when the group canceled its annual Taste of Wine & Cheese event in April due to COVID.

This weeklong auction will feature “fun items and unique experiences” for bidders, according to a news release from the club. Participants will also have an opportunity to “grant wishes” of club kids and staff.

“Participants will be helping the club do whatever it takes to meet the needs of children throughout Portage County,” the news release said.

The club has continued offering services to area families since the pandemic hit locally, and since March has provided food, supervision, help with school work, and “just a place for them to forget their worries while having fun with friends.”
