Williams promoted to sergeant at SPPD

Stevens Point Police Detective Dana Williams has been promoted to sergeant.
Williams, 44, was sworn into her new role at a special ceremony on Jan. 14 before dozens of local law enforcement officers.
Williams has been with the department since 1997. She started as a patrol officer, moving into a community service position, then worked as a school liaison at SPASH for three years.
After some additional time on the road, she was promoted to lead reserve shift supervisor. In 2014, Williams was moved to the investigations bureau, where she became the department’s first dedicated computer forensics officer, also working on sensitive crimes.
Williams is taking over the role previously held by Sgt. Tony Zblewski, who retired last week. She was one of only three women in the department at the time of her hire.
“It was a little bit of a challenge at first, but anyone coming into this profession has to prove themselves and show they can be relied upon,” Williams said. “But this is a good group of people I work with, and they’re definitely my family. I wouldn’t trade them for the world.”
Williams lives with her husband and two children in Stevens Point.
