Walk Wisconsin ’21 goes virtual

By Patrick Lynn

The biggest walking event in the area is going virtual this year.

Sponsored by Active Portage County, Walk Wisconsin is usually held at Pfiffner Pioneer Park, with the starting and finishing line stationed along the bank of the Wisconsin River. Vendors, organized comfort stations, and free food, is typically part of the event, which has always been held on the first Saturday each June.

Thanks to COVID-19, the event is going virtual in 2021.

This year, participants are encouraged to register to “enjoy the event from wherever they are between Saturday, May 29, and Saturday, June 5,” a news release from Active Portage County reads in part.

Participants can choose from three marathon events, including; a full marathon (26.2 miles), a half-marathon (13.1 miles), or a quarter-marathon (6.5 miles).

Training schedules and online registration are available on the Walk Wisconsin page at ActivePortageCounty.com. Registered participants will have the option to select a t-shirt and finisher medallion (for a fee), which can be picked up or shipped.

Pick-up will be available May 24-29 at 1105 Main St., Ste A. in Stevens Point.

Walk Wisconsin, a popular non-competitive walking event, began in 2005.
