Walk for Wags coming in June
By Brandi Makuski
It’s one of the biggest pet draws of the year.
The annual “Walk for Wags” fundraising event, hosted by the Humane Society of Portage County will be held, Sunday, June 3 at the Pfiffner Pioneer Park, 1100 Crosby Ave., in Stevens Point.
The event, expecting to bring hundreds of four-footed guests and their humans, will be held from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m. Mayor Mike Wiza will emcee the event.
Activities this year include a 1.5-mile walk, kids games, music, a pet costume contest, pet photographer, a caricature artist, and vendors. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
The fundraiser brings in much-needed donations to the humane society, according to Chris L. Langenfeld, executive director.
Langenfeld said Team Schierl Companies is being recognized as a “Great Dane” sponsor which indicates a single donation of $2,500.
Anyone making a minimum pledge of $40 before May 18, or $50 after May 18, will receive a Walk for Wags t-shirt. The event is free and open to the public, Langenfeld said, even if they don’t have pets.
Registration forms are available at http://www.hspcwi.org/Walk2018/index.html, or at the Humane Society of Portage County, 3200 Iber Ln. in Plover.
Vendor space and sponsorship opportunities are still available, Langenfeld said. More information is available on the human society’s website.
