Voting audits scheduled in Point, Hull as part of random equipment check

By Patrick Lynn

Two area municipalities will be conducting voting system audits on Monday.

According to Stevens Point City Clerk Paul Piotrowski, one voting district in each county is randomly chosen for the audit during each election cycle under rules of the Wisconsin Election Commission. The audits are conducted to verify voting equipment is functioning properly.

In Portage Co., the chosen area is District 8/Wards 6, 7, and 8, which spans across areas in Stevens Point and Hull. Both areas use the DS200 optical scan voting system.

Both audits will be conducted on Monday, Nov. 19 beginning at 9 a.m. Votes will be recounted by hand using poll workers from the Nov. 6 midterm election cycle.

In Hull, the audit will be conducted in the Hull Municipal Building, 4550 Wojcik Memorial Dr.

In the city, the audit will be held in Conference Room D of the County/City Building, 1516 Church St.

The public is welcome to inspect both audits as they occur.
