Volunteers sought for September bike/ped count
Metro Wire Staff
The Stevens Point Bicycle and Pedestrian Street Safety Commission is seeking volunteers to help with the group’s 2019 bicycle and pedestrian count.
Volunteers will be stationed at various locations across the city for the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project, a project sponsored by Alta Planning and Design and the Institute of Transportation Engineers Pedestrian and Bicycle Council.
The nationwide effort provides a “consistent model of data collection and ongoing data for use by planners, governments, and bicycle and pedestrian professionals,” according to http://bikepeddocumentation.org.
City records show 1,014 bicyclists and 3,233 pedestrians were observed at various locations during the 2018 count, down slightly from 2017 totals of 1,067 bicyclists and 3,297 pedestrians.
Volunteers for the 2019 count will be asked to help on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Saturday, Sept. 14.
