UWSP to dedicate Chemistry Biology Building to alumni couple

By Patrick Lynn

STEVENS POINT — The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will dedicate its Chemistry Biology Building in honor of alumni Frank R. and Kathleen Y. Haeni during a special ceremony this week.

The building will officially be renamed the Frank R. and Kathleen Y. Haeni Chemistry Biology Building at 2 p.m. Friday, May 2, in Room 105. Speakers will include Joshua Hagen, dean of the College of Letters and Science, and La Vonne Cornell-Swanson, provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs.

The dedication will be followed by the College of Letters and Science’s 26th annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, with students presenting oral and poster presentations throughout the building from 2:30-4 p.m.

“Frank and Kathleen Haeni have given much to the university since their graduation from UWSP in 1970,” Hagen said. “We are so grateful for their support of student success, faculty engagement and state-of-the-art facilities. It is because of their gifts that our students can present their research at the annual symposium.”

The Haenis’ support includes four endowed scholarships in the College of Letters and Science and the College of Natural Resources. They have also contributed funding for faculty-mentored undergraduate research, the Undergraduate Research Symposium, and the Olson Museum of Natural History. Their most recent commitment established an endowment to fund laboratory repairs, equipment purchases, and maintenance for the building now bearing their name.
