UW-Stevens Point theatre and dance season announced

For the Metro Wire

Get ready for another exciting year of drama, musicals, original choreography and a new theatre experience at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point as part of the 2018-19 Department of Theatre and Dance season.

The 2018-19 performances include:

· “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” – Oct. 12-14 and 17-20, Studio Theatre
Winner of the 1955 Pulitzer Prize for drama, Tennessee Williams’ play has thrilled audiences for decades with a story about family secrets, greed, desire, and death. Not suitable for young children.

· “Heathers: The Musical” – Nov. 9-11 and 14-17, Jenkins Theatre
Based on the dark, cult classic 1988 film, this edgy and humorous Off-Broadway rock musical is about high school hierarchy and a mysterious new student. Recommended for mature audiences.

· “Afterimages 2018” – Dec. 6-9, Jenkins Theatre
This student-directed show highlights student choreographers, performers, lighting and costume designers and gives students the full experience of creating their own work.

· “Kodachrome” – Feb. 8-9, 2019, Studio Theatre
This performance will be a stage reading only of a new play about love, nostalgia, the seasons and how we learn to say goodbye.

· “Macbeth” – March 1-3 and 7-9, 2019, Jenkins Theatre
In William Shakespeare’s classic thriller, Macbeth is urged by his wife to kill the king and take the throne for himself, resulting in murder and madness. Not suitable for young children.

· “Amour” – April 5-7 and 10-13, 2019, Studio Theatre
An unassuming office clerk gains a special ability and becomes a Parisian Robin Hood and national hero. But can he rescue the woman he loves?

· “Danstage 2019” – May 3-5 and 8-10, Studio Theatre
The annual dance concert features new works by faculty members and a guest choreographer.

Tickets are now available for individual evening and matinee performances in the Jenkins Theatre ($24 adults/seniors, $21 faculty/staff, $14 youth) and in the Studio Theatre ($23 adults/seniors, $20 faculty/staff, $13 youth).
