UW-Stevens Point reports another year of enrollment growth

By Patrick Lynn

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point saw increases in first-year, graduate, and overall enrollment for the 2024-25 academic year, according to data from the first day of classes.

Graduate student enrollment rose by 6 percent this fall, while first-year and transfer enrollment increased by 3 percent, contributing to a 3 percent overall rise in full-time enrollment. The university also attracted more students from outside Wisconsin.

“UW-Stevens Point experienced the largest growth in full-time enrollments among UW campuses, tied with UW-Madison, and ranks among the top three UW schools for graduate student enrollment growth,” said Lana Poole, chief marketing and enrollment officer.

Preliminary first-day counts show total enrollment at UW-Stevens Point, including the Marshfield and Wausau campuses, was 8,263. First-year enrollment at the Stevens Point campus was 1,738.

The enrollment growth is attributed in part to new academic and athletic programs, as well as increased engagement with both students and parents.

“We’ve expanded our outreach to families through additional in-person and virtual visit options, meeting students where they are,” Poole said. “We also showcased our vibrant campus community in an episode of The College Tour on Amazon Prime. Most importantly, we’ve made college more affordable with new scholarship offerings.”

UW-Stevens Point has also launched the NextGen Scholarship Portal, which streamlines the application process for about 700 campus scholarships. With a single application, students are matched with scholarships based on their academic data and financial need. New and transfer students may apply now, while continuing students can apply starting Nov. 1.

“The collaborative efforts of our admissions, recruitment, academic advising, and financial aid teams have expanded opportunities for prospective students and their families,” said Chancellor Thomas Gibson. “As a result, more students are finding pathways to achieving their educational goals at UW-Stevens Point, helping to drive growth in our regional, state, and national economies.”

Students entering college in the fall of 2025 can visit the UW-Stevens Point Welcome Center or the Marshfield and Wausau Solution Centers. Tours provide information about campus life, student resources, the application process, and return on investment.
