UW-Stevens Point offers Soul Food Dinner this Sunday

Celebrate a soulful evening with southern food and entertainment at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, co-sponsored by the Black Student Union and Diversity and College Access.

The 25th annual Soul Food Dinner will be held Sunday, Feb. 25, from 5-8 PM in the Dreyfus University Center Laird Room, 1015 Reserve St., Stevens Point. The menu includes southern foods such as fried chicken, cornbread, greens, macaroni and cheese, red beans and rice, yams, cobbler and banana pudding.

This year’s featured speaker is Tony Laing, director of the Men of Color Initiative at UW-Oshkosh and a lecturer in African American and gender studies. He earned a Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies with joint concentrations in African American Studies and Community Informatics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as well as a master’s degree from New York University Wagner and bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College. His specific interests lie at the intersection of K-12 education, gender studies (specifically social constructions of masculinity) and African-American studies.

In addition, UW-Stevens Point’s TIFU Cultural Ensemble and others will perform.
