UW Credit Union proposes new branch on city’s east side

STEVENS POINT — UW Credit Union is seeking approval for a new branch in Stevens Point at the southeast corner of U.S. Highway 10 and Brilowski Road, where an Applebee’s was previously located before its demolition in 2023.
The proposal, led by representative PJ Thieren, involves a 4,975-square-foot building designed to house the credit union’s retail banking, mortgage, and wealth management services.
According to city documents, the facility will include two drive-thru Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs), with infrastructure set for a possible future third ITM. The planned branch will employ up to nine full-time staff members, operating Monday through Saturday.
The proposed development falls under the “B-5” Highway Commercial zoning district, which permits drive-thru financial institutions. A site plan review is required for the construction, which the Plan Commission and Common Council will review.
The building’s exterior will feature brick masonry, high-pressure laminate siding, and metal composite panels. Amenities include a canopy-covered teller area and parking to the south of the structure. Additional site requirements, such as a stormwater management plan, bicycle parking, and fire safety installations, must be approved by city departments before construction.
The Plan Commission will consider the project during an upcoming session, with the Common Council to follow for final approval.
The Commission meets at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 in the Community Room of the Stevens Point Police Department, 933 Michigan Ave. The public is welcome to attend.
