UPDATE: Woman killed in Stockton crash on Saturday

STOCKTON — A 75-year-old woman was killed Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Hwy. J and County Hwy. HH in the Town of Stockton.

According to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported at 12:23 p.m. on June 13. A preliminary investigation found that the woman, who was driving an SUV, failed to yield the right of way from a stop sign and was struck by a pickup truck traveling southbound on County Hwy. J. The woman died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Stockton Fire Chief Jeremy Spencer confirmed earlier Saturday that there was one driver in each vehicle and that the other driver was expected to survive.

A medical helicopter was initially requested but later canceled. The Portage County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene.

The crash shut down the intersection for several hours, and the Portage County Traffic Incident Management Team from the Plover Fire Department assisted with traffic control and detours around the area.

A department chaplain also responded to assist first responders. Spencer said one of the department’s chaplains was called to the scene following the fatal crash.

Responding to the call were the fire departments from Stockton, Plover, and Stevens Point, and the Portage County Sheriff’s Office. The Portage County Medical Examiner also responded.

The crash remains under investigation. Authorities said the woman’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
