UPDATE: Victim in Friday night rollover ID’d

One man is dead following a Friday night rollover in the Town of Sharon.

According to the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to Hwy. 66 and Rustin Dr. at about 7:40 p.m. on April 15 when a caller reported a single-vehicle rollover.

Lt. Steven Brown said deputies discovered a “severely damaged Dodge truck” in the south ditch east
of Rustic Dr. The truck came to a stop on its roof.

The motorist, identified as 71-year-old Eugene Walczak, was trapped inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the rollover was still under investigation, Brown said.

The Rosholt Fire Department, Sharon emergency medical responders, Stevens Point Fire Fire, Portage Co. EMS, and the medical examiner’s office all responded to the scene.

The cause and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
