UPDATE: Power outages caused by flooding
By Brandi Makuski
About 600 customers are lost power Thursday morning, with more than 500 in Plover.
The power outages, according to Kelly Zagrzebski from Wisconsin Public Service, were caused by flooding of underground utilities.
Zagrzebski said crews are working to switch power over to backup systems to restore service as quickly as possible, and plan to fix the cause of the problem afterward.
“It is rare, but this whole goofy winter has been rare,” she said. “All the excessive snow piles around town…but I’ve been in this job for 28 years and nothing surprises me anymore.”
The outages begin in the area of McDill Elementary and stretch south, according to the WPS website.
Additionally, some internet and phone service in the Stevens Point Area Public School District are down. Anyone needing to reach the SPASH should call (715) 340-6583.
