United Way to kick off ’22 campaign with Aug. 11 concert

By Patrick Lynn

The United Way of Portage Co. will kick off its 2022 campaign during a special live concert on Aug. 11.

It’s unlike anything the organization has done before, partnering with CREATE Portage County to announce its kick-off during a live music performance. Levitt AMP artist Malamanya, which bills itself as vintage Afro-Latin music, will perform at the Pfiffner Pioneer Park Bandshell from 6-8:30 p.m. The concert is free, open to the public, and family-friendly. Attendees should bring their own blankets and chairs.

Sue Wilcox, executive director for the United Way, called the event “an extension” of the Levitt AMP music serious.

“Families can come to enjoy music and learn more about their United Way,” she said.

Attendees are also encouraged to bring school supplies to donate for the 2022 Project Fresh Start School Supply drive. Project Fresh Start provides necessary school supplies to local students from low-income families, and is a United Way program.

The United Way estimates more than 3,000 students will be eligible for the program this year, Wilcox added.

United Way of Portage County will also highlight pacesetter companies for its fundraising drive. Companies include Delta Dental of Wisconsin, NorthWinds Technology Solutions, Wysocki Family of Companies/RPE, and Great Lakes Educational Services.

The 2022 Drive Chairs will be on hand to take part in the festivities and to talk about their work with United Way.

The United Way of Portage County 2022 Campaign will take place throughout Portage County at approximately 170 worksites, via direct mail, and contributions made online at UnitedWayPoCo.org.

Donors of $52 or more to the 2022 United Way campaign will receive a GIVE & GET UNITED Coupon Book with more than $2,000 in local discounts.  Eligible donors of $52 or more are also automatically entered into the LIVE UNITED – GIVE UNITED Sweepstakes for a chance to win their choice of one of three brand new all-wheel drive SUVs, donated by Stevens Point Auto Center in addition to nine other great prizes valued at $1,000 or more, all donated by local individuals or businesses.
