Turquoise on Main to close after six years in downtown Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT — After six years in downtown Stevens Point, Turquoise on Main is preparing to close its doors as owner Connie Buchanan relocates with her family to the South.

The boutique, which opened in the summer of 2020, has begun a storewide 50% off liquidation sale and expects to close by the end of August.

Buchanan said the decision was driven by her husband’s job, which is taking the family closer to their roots in Mississippi.

“It’s very bittersweet,” Buchanan said. “We’re from the South. We lived in Nashville like 26 years ago, but it does put us so much closer to home, which is Mississippi. My mom’s there, one of my daughters and two of my grandkids are there. We are excited, but, like I said, it’s so bittersweet because I love my store.”

The boutique occupies leased space on Main Street, and Buchanan said she must vacate the storefront by the end of August.

She announced the closure in a social media video this week and immediately launched the clearance sale.

“The store is 50% off,” Buchanan said. “I have to be out by the end of August.”

Buchanan said she hopes customers will stop in before the inventory is gone.

“The sooner the better,” she said. “I just want to get the word out.”

Until the store closes, Turquoise on Main will maintain its regular business hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Turquoise on Main opened during the summer of 2020, bringing women’s clothing, accessories and gifts to downtown Stevens Point during one of the most challenging periods for small businesses. Over the past six years, the boutique built a loyal customer base and became a fixture along Main Street.

While Buchanan said she’s looking forward to being closer to family, leaving Stevens Point won’t be easy.

“It’s very bittersweet,” she said. “I love my store.”
