Tom Pease to share life stories in PCHS oral history event
By Patrick Lynn
PLOVER – The Portage County Historical Society will host a special evening of storytelling with longtime performer and educator Tom Pease on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Heritage Park, 2700 Madison Ave.
The event, titled In Their Own Words: A Live Oral History with Tom Pease, begins at 6:30 p.m. and will highlight Pease’s journey as a musician, teacher, and community builder.
Pease, known throughout the Midwest for his energetic performances and family-friendly songs, has spent more than four decades connecting with audiences through humor, movement, and music. The evening will focus on the personal stories behind his music and his lifelong dedication to education and creativity.
Born and raised in Burlington, Iowa, along the Mississippi River bluffs, Pease’s connection to nature shaped much of his work. His career has spanned from teaching environmental education in California to working on his brother’s Wisconsin farm before finding his true calling in children’s music.
Now living on 75 acres of woods and fields in rural Amherst, Pease continues to inspire others through his passion for music and the natural world.
“Tom Pease has spent his life helping people see the beauty in connection, whether through song, story, or laughter,” said Museum Educator Kimberly Kopplin. “We’re honored to share his story as part of our In Their Own Words series.”
Organizers said that Pease will not perform songs during the event but will share personal reflections from his life and career.
Admission is $25 for Historical Society members, $35 for nonmembers, and $40 at the door. Seating is limited.
Tickets can be reserved at www.pchswi.org or by contacting the Portage County Historical Society at 715-544-4950.
