Tina M. Greco, 49
Tina Marie Greco, age 49, passed away on January 13, 2024, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California, with her mother and daughter at her side, after a battle with breast cancer.
She is the daughter of Dennis and Donna (Omernik) Greco, mother of Kathryn, sister to Julie, Pamela, and Stephen, aunt to Devin and Nicholas Toth, Cecilia Martin, Avery, Emma, and James Saari, and Stryder Greco.
Tina was born in Stevens Point on December 17, 1974, graduated from Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) in 1992, and obtained her bachelor’s in nursing from Marion College in Fond Du Lac, Wis. While in high school, Tina and her sister Julie excelled in track and field and were the recipients of numerous medals and state titles. Tina incorporated her love of travel and adventure into her nursing career, utilizing her skills in many different fields: traveling nurse, trauma, organ procurement, hospice, and jail nursing. Her travels took her to Mexico, London, Prague, Paris, Greece, the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the Dominican Republic. In 2016, she was able to take the trip of her dreams to Sicily with her dad to meet family on different soil. One of her proudest moments was the mission trip she took to Haiti after the earthquakes that struck in 2010, doing what she loved most, caring for the underprivileged and injured. In her free time, Tina enjoyed yoga, concerts, reading, and good times with friends, but mostly she enjoyed her time with Kathryn. Her love for her was unconditional and everlasting, always having her best interests in mind, heart, and soul.
She is survived by numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Myron and Cecilia Omernik, Salvatore and Marion Greco, aunts Linda Konkol and Joanne Omernik, and uncles Myron Jr., Robert, Gary, Larry, and Joseph Omernik. Cousins Kurt, Debra, and Maria Omernik, Tommy Hepting.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Pisarski Funeral Home, 2911 Plover Rd., Plover, Wis., with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11, and a private burial at a later date.
We would like to express our profound gratitude to all the doctors and nurses who provided outstanding care to Tina, to her friends Rosie and Amanda, who helped us navigate the unfamiliarity of the city of San Diego, but especially to Devin; none of this could have happened without his hard work and dedication.
In lieu of flowers, contributions for her daughter, Kathryn’s education fund would be appreciated, or to the following organizations below that were very important to Tina.
Tina’s organ donation request was unable to be fulfilled due to her body’s condition, so after conducting thorough research, we have arranged a donation of her remains to cancer research to align with her wishes. We would like to extend our research donation by offering loved ones the opportunity to donate to two different cancer foundations. Two institutes that directly supported Tina are the Moores Cancer Center at UCSD (donations for cancer research) and the Scripps Health Foundation (donations for patient care in the hospital she was admitted to). Donations can be made via their website or by check at the memorial service.
