STEVENS POINT — A three-way race in District 10 will trigger a February primary as the final list of candidates for the April 7 Stevens Point City Council election is now set, according to records on file with the city clerk’s office.
Candidates have filed paperwork in all five council districts up for election this spring: Districts 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. Each seat carries a two-year term beginning April 21.
Two incumbents are seeking another term. District 2 Council Member Jacqui Guthrie and District 8 Council Member Dean Shuda both filed paperwork to run again. Shuda was first elected in 2022, while Guthrie joined the council in 2024.
Districts 4 and 6 will each feature two-candidate races. In District 4, David W. Crueger and Andrea Olson are on the ballot. District 6 candidates include Sal Cuomo and Joe Donahue.
District 10 drew three candidates, requiring a primary election. Robert Larson, Matt Moldenhauer, and Zack Sowieja all filed paperwork to run in the district. The top two vote-getters in the Feb. 17 primary will advance to the April general election.
Three current council members whose seats are on the ballot previously filed notices of noncandidacy and will not seek re-election: District 4 Council Member Lara Broderick, District 6 Council Member Dale Steinmetz, and District 10 Council Member Dustin Buse.
The primary election will be held Feb. 17. The spring election is scheduled for April 7.
