By Brandi Makuski

PLOVER — One person was taken to the hospital following a three-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 39 near the County B off-ramp.

The crash occurred at about 4:16 p.m. in the southbound lanes, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The scene was cleared and all lanes reopened by 5 p.m.

Plover Fire Chief Mark Deaver said three vehicles were involved in the collision but declined to comment on what caused the crash, as the incident remains under investigation by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.

Two people were evaluated at the scene by Plover paramedics and released. A third patient, a man whose age was not immediately available, was taken by ambulance to Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Deaver said the man was in stable condition when he left the scene.

The crash backed up southbound traffic for nearly a mile as emergency crews worked at the scene. Plover police officers assisted with traffic control while firefighters, paramedics and sheriff’s deputies responded.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
