Three displaced by Plover fire

Emergency workers say it was a quick-acting neighbor who saved three people from a house fire on Sunday afternoon.

Metro Fire crews were called to the 2500 block of Green Ave. in Plover on April 29. According to Plover Deputy Chief Ken Voss, flames were visible when crews arrived.

“There were flames and heavy smoke showing from the back of the house,” Voss said. “They pulled a line and did a direct attack on it, had it knocked down within a couple of minutes.”

Voss said the fire doesn’t appear to be suspicious but the cause it still under investigation.

A tenant of the single-family home and his two children were inside at the time of the fire. They escaped unharmed, along with a family pet.

“The resident didn’t even know the house was on fire,” said Sgt. Brent Thauer from the Plover Police Dept., who assisted in closing off the roadway to traffic. “Their neighbor saw the fire and came running over, knocked on the door and told them the house was on fire.”

Voss said there was fire damage to the back of the house, and smoke and water damage to the interior of the home. While it’s not considered a total loss, the home likely won’t be inhabitable “for a while,” he added.

Voss said he notified the American Red Cross to assist the residents.

Th scene was cleared shortly after 3 p.m.
