Thomas “Tom” Anton Havlovick, 75
Thomas “Tom” Anton Havlovick, 75, passed away peacefully on Nov. 30, 2024, following a short illness.
Tom, affectionately known to some as “Tommy,” was born Oct. 30, 1949, in Wausau, Wisconsin, to Irene (née Leffel) and Joseph Havlovick. He grew up in Marathon City and later moved to 21st Avenue in the town of Stettin. His childhood was filled with mischief and fun, from playing pranks on neighbors to organizing neighborhood baseball and football games. He attended Holy Name and St. Matthew grade schools before graduating from Newman High School in 1968.
Tom held various jobs before and after high school, including helping his father on the “Bread Route,” working at his uncle Arden’s farm, and stints at the 7UP bottling company and Wausau Motor Parts. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1969, serving as a legal clerk at N.A.S. Milton Field in Florida and later in the Naval Reserve until 1975.
In 1973, Tom and his family purchased the Point Bakery in Stevens Point, where he worked nights crafting bread, cookies, pies, and pastries. He attended Dunwoody Baking School in Minneapolis to refine his skills. After leaving the bakery in 2000, he worked at Banta and Figi’s warehouses until retiring in 2018.
Tom married Elizabeth “Betty” (née Flatoff) on Aug. 1, 1981, and together they raised six children in Whiting. He was an involved father and grandfather, attending countless performances, moving his children to and from college, and visiting relatives.
A fan of NASCAR, the Green Bay Packers, and local stock car races, Tom also enjoyed puzzles, word searches, and community involvement. He was known for his friendly nature, offering help to strangers and making people laugh with his “Dad” jokes.
Tom is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth; his children, Brian Havlovick, Bridget (Matt) Van Laanen, Andrew (Gina) Havlovick, Anthony Havlovick, Valerie Havlovick, and Derek (Meredith) Havlovick; and seven grandchildren, Emma, Zelda, Andromeda, Theodore, Winston, Ezra, and Violet. He is also survived by 12 siblings and their spouses, and numerous extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Joseph; a sister, JoAnn Wachsmuth; and a brother, Raymond Havlovick.
The family extends its gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and staff at Plover Aspirus Emergency and Wausau Aspirus Hospital for their compassionate care, especially IMC nurse Victor and the Palliative Care Unit.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Stevens Point. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery with military honors provided by Plover VFW Post #10262.
