Terrie E. Flatoff, 83, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home on December 1, 2021.
Terrie was born May 18, 1938, in Marinette, Mich., the daughter of Allen W. and Lorraine E. (Jones) Johnston. Terrie moved to Stevens Point in 1947, attended P.J. Jacobs and UWSP where she met Edwin S. Flatoff while selling tickets to a dance.
Terrie and Ed married on August 9, 1958, built a family of five children, and spent 59 years happily married.
Terrie worked at the old Northside IGA as a cashier. In 1977, while Ed was on a business trip, she purchased South Point Restaurant and ran it for 44 years before passing it on to daughter Kelly (Flatoff) Jurgella.
Terrie and Ed enjoyed socializing, traveling, and the outdoors. Terrie was a Cub Scout leader, avid hockey mom, bridge player, and Facebook connector.
Throughout their years together, Terrie and Ed traveled the world including frequent trips to Las Vegas, Jamaica, in addition to many other countries. Terrie loved to fish for walleyes and feed the cardinals and hummingbirds at their cabins in Mosinee, Wis., Lake Gogebic, Mich., and Collins Lake. The family spent many summers camping at Collins Park and Harmsen’s Camp Ground with close family friends.
More than anything, Terrie adored her family and friends and would love nothing more than watching movies, picnicking at Iverson and Bukolt parks, and making every holiday special including her favorite holiday, Christmas.
Toward the end of her life, Terrie was thankful to her caregivers, Amber, Liz, and Rose. Their love and support ensured that she was comfortable and well cared for.
Terrie is survived by her children, Brad (Barb) Flatoff, Blake (Paula) Flatoff, Kelly (Eddie) Jurgella, Kevin (Jodi) Flatoff, and Barry (Diana) Flatoff and brothers Blake Johnston and Mark Johnston as well as twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ed in 2018.
A private memorial for family and very close friends will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Shuda Funeral Chapel.
