Taste of Wine & Cheese replaced with new event, still needs support
We’re Not Wine-ing…But We Still Need Your Cheese
By Patrick Lynn
The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County canceled the in-person Taste of Wine & Cheese event for 2021, but they’ve replaced it with another event—and they need help from the public.
The BGC made the “difficult” decision to cancel its signature event to avoid a potential COVID outbreak. But the organization relies on donations from the public to continue its work.
In lieu of the Taste of Wine & Cheese event, the Boys & Girls Club is launching the “We’re Not Wine-ing…But We Still Need Your Cheese” campaign on Friday, April 2.
The club is asking community members to consider giving their “cheese” to support essential programming for kids across Portage Co. “Cheese” is a slang term for money, born after the end of the Second World War.
Kevin Quevillon, executive director of the club, has agreed to dress up in a mouse costume to ask for “cheese” to support club programming. He’ll be visible throughout the community at local businesses.
The club’s goal is to raise $100,000 by Wednesday, April 21.
