Suspected drunken driver arrested after Hull hit-and-run

HULL — A Town of Hull man was arrested Thursday night after authorities say he struck a man riding an electric skateboard, fled the scene and left the victim with life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened at about 8:20 p.m. on Jordan Road in the Town of Hull. Portage County sheriff’s deputies were called to the 5500 block after receiving a report that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian before leaving the scene.

The victim was flown by Aspirus MedEvac to a trauma center in Wausau, where he remained in critical condition Friday.

Deputies later located the suspected driver and arrested 30-year-old Samuel Milkey of the Town of Hull. Investigators have asked the Portage County District Attorney’s Office to charge him with operating while intoxicated causing injury.

The Sheriff’s Office initially asked the public Friday morning for help identifying the victim. Authorities were able to confirm the victim’s identity shortly after the news release was issued, and the request for public assistance was canceled.

Investigators said the victim had been seen riding an electric skateboard along Jordan Road near Jordan Park on several occasions in recent weeks.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Town of Hull Fire/Rescue/EMS, Portage County Ambulance, the Stevens Point Police Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol and Aspirus MedEvac.
