Stevens Point Women’s Club marks 130 years of service

STEVENS POINT – The Stevens Point Women’s Club celebrated its 130th anniversary on March 13 with a gathering at the Sky Club, featuring city officials and representatives from the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC).

Mayor Mike Wiza and his wife, Chris Wiza, attended the event alongside GFWC state president Linda Brown and Mary Kay Ernest. During the celebration, Wiza read a mayoral commendation recognizing the club’s contributions to the community.

Founded in 1895, the Stevens Point Women’s Club is part of GFWC, an international organization established in 1890 that promotes community improvement through volunteer service. GFWC-Wisconsin was chartered into the federation on Oct. 20, 1896, with a mission to connect women’s clubs across the state and provide networking opportunities with other state federations and GFWC headquarters.

For more than a century, GFWC-Wisconsin has supported community and national initiatives through volunteerism. The Stevens Point chapter has contributed to several local projects, including Pediatric Jump Bags, Jaws of Life, foster care programs, Seramur Park, Schmeeckle Reserve, and KASH Park.
