Stevens Point Welcomes First Baby of New Year

Stevens Point has welcomed its first baby of 2018.

Born to Dan and Ashley Garza of Stevens Point, the baby girl, who is currently unnamed, was born at St. Michael’s Hospital at 3:36 AM on Jan. 1.

Ashley Garza said the couple’s daughter wasn’t due until Jan. 18, so the early labor was a surprise.

“I was only in labor for a couple of hours, it went really fast,” she said.

The girl was born small—5 pounds, 12 oz. and 19 inches long—but is otherwise healthy, her mother said.

“She’s a little grumpy at night but I usually have to wake her up to feed her,” she added.

Ashley Garza said the baby is settling in at home with both parents and two older siblings, three-and-a-half and six.
