Stevens Point police seeking new K9 logo
Metro Wire Staff
The Stevens Point Police Department is looking for a new K9 logo, and they need the community’s help.
Lt. Jeremy Mueller said the department is almost out of t-shirts with its original logo. Before they order a new batch of shirts, the department would like to freshen up the look.
The contest is open to any city resident 10 years and older. Submissions must contain “Stevens Point Police” and “K9 Unit” within the design.
Designs must be either mailed to the Stevens Point Police Department, 933 Michigan Ave., Stevens Point, Wis., 54481, or dropped off in person at the department’s records window in the front lobby.
All submissions should include the artist’s name and phone number and must be turned in by June 14.
Officers at SPPD will choose their favorite five designs, which will then be posted on Facebook for a community vote.
The department installed its K9 unit in April 2018 to help address the city’s rising drug problem. SPPD uses two Belgian Malinois trained in scent tracking various drugs, and in article tracking and apprehension.
SPPD maintains the program will with drug forfeitures, along with an anticipated $5,000-$8,000 in annual donations.
