Stevens Point Police Department swears in new officer

STEVENS POINT — The Stevens Point Police Department welcomed its newest officer Monday as Alexander Mancheski took the oath of office during a ceremony attended by family, friends and fellow officers.
Police Chief Ed Orgon said becoming a police officer is a commitment shared by more than the person wearing the badge.
“Law enforcement is often stressful, demanding and dangerous,” Orgon said. “We cannot do our job or be successful at this job if we don’t have an incredible support system here in the department or in our homes.”
Orgon thanked Mancheski’s family and friends for supporting his decision to join the profession and said the department will do everything it can to ensure officers return home safely after every shift.
A native of Denmark, Wisconsin, Mancheski graduated from high school in 2023 and is pursuing a degree in conservation law enforcement at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He completed the 720-hour law enforcement academy at Mid-State Technical College in May, earning the Dr. Clark Pagel Recruit Award for excellence.
Mancheski has worked as the department’s part-time community safety officer and parking enforcement officer since December 2025 and has served with the Stevens Point Police Auxiliary since April 2025.
Orgon said Mancheski originally planned to pursue a career with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, but his experience working alongside Stevens Point officers changed his mind.
“We’ll provide you with the training and equipment you need to be successful,” Orgon said. “All I ask is that you bring a desire to learn and to get better every day.”
City Clerk Susan Pagel administered the oath of office on July 6 before Mancheski’s father, Aaron, pinned on his badge.
Mancheski said working with the department confirmed it was where he wanted to build his career.
“The more I talked with everyone here, the more I realized this was where I wanted to be,” he said. “Everyone I work with is amazing. They’re respectful, they’re helpful, and they’ve always been there for me.”
He closed by thanking his parents, family and friends for supporting him throughout the process.
