Winners of a recent essay contest have been announced by the Stevens Point Noon Optimist Club.

Three local students were honored for their submissions in the nonprofit’s annual contest. This year’s theme was “How Does an Optimistic Mindset Change My Tomorrow?”

Faith Kempe from SPASH is this year’s first-place winner of the club-level Optimist International Essay Contest. Kempe’s essay will be sent to the district level to be judged along with winners from other Optimist Clubs in the district, and she will be awarded $150 from the Stevens Point Noon Optimist Club.

The winner of the district contest will win a $2,500 college scholarship.

Rounding out the top three finalists for this year were Alexa Kerchefski in second place, followed by Tommi C. Heikkinen in third.

The Stevens Point Noon Optimist Club was chartered on May 17, 1961, and has been in continuous service to the local community and youth since that time. The club’s mission statement is, “By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities, and ourselves.”
