Steven G. Berndt, 65

Steven G. Berndt, age 65, of Stevens Point, died at home after long a battle with cancer on May 30, 2018.

Steven was born April 9, 1953, to the late Richard and Esther (Murat) Berndt in Neillsville, Wis. His family moved to Stevens Point, where he attended the local grade schools and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School.

Following high school, Steven attended UWSP until deciding to join the family business at Berndt-Murat Insurance. He later transitions from the insurance business to computer processing. Steven attended Mid-State Technical College and later became employed with Copps Foods as a data entry coordinator.

In addition to his day jobs, Steven’s musical nature and talent kept him busy playing bass guitar for several bands and artists throughout his life. Most notably, he was a member of The Orbits and The Grass Roots and many others. Steven also enjoyed occasionally helping out UWSP’s radio, 90 FM.

Steven will be remembered for his kind heart, artistic nature, and active persona. In his earlier years, Steven loved playing high school football. As a young boy, he appreciated going on various fishing trips and enjoyed the serenity of the natural world. His passion for music developed at a young age and was instrumental in his personal growth. When he wasn’t playing in a band, Steven surrounded himself with “hip tunes”, especially those from his prized record collection. He later developed a fascination with hummingbirds and taking care of his beloved rescued cats, Missy and Oliver. In addition, Steven often enjoyed gazing out his window and enjoying the tranquility of the turkey, dear, and birds passing by.

He is survived by his sister, Christine Berndt; niece, Leah Eisner; brother-in-law, Michael Eisner; precious extended family; and numerous friends.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Friday, June 8, 2018, at Boston Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Ficken presiding. A time of visitation will precede at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of service. A Committal Rite and Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
